Wow your Walls

A simple way to breathe new life into a room is with a wallcovering. This can be anything from paint to wallpaper. Below I will share with you a few of my favorite wall applications that will help give your space a whole new look!

I love when a client wants to put up wallpaper. I know you’re probably envisioning your Grandma’s dated floral print, but it has come a long way and is now a fabulous option for adding pattern, color, and texture to your walls. Wallpaper comes in patterns that range from modern to traditional and can make a huge impact, especially in small spaces, like powder rooms. If you are looking for a creative way to involve your children in the design process then Flat Vernacular manufactures fun patterned wallpapers that you can color yourself, just like a coloring book. It’s a better idea than finding your dining room wall has a new hand drawn mural on it.

Painting your walls is the quickest and most cost effective wall application. A new color or application can help give a room that fresh start it needs There are a ton of painting techniques to choose from. Make a statement by applying a high gloss or lacquer finish to any paint color - the shiny walls will look bright and beautiful. Or try painting your walls ombré by making them go from dark to light and your walls will never go unnoticed. Do you want to make your room a tuscan villa getaway? Apply your paint using a sponge or rag for more texture. And for the look of wallpaper without the extra cost, painting over a stenciled pattern works great.

Painted wall murals or sticker decals are fantastic applications to use for a space that needs some pop. I like to use these in place of art work so that the two don’t compete with each other. You can customize it to your liking, which is fun. For example, if you love stargazing, a constellation wall would be right up your alley. Or a beautiful floral wall decal can bring the outdoors inside!

A more permanent way to make a statement in a room is by applying an architectural material to the wall. Some of my favorites are shiplap, brick, stone, reclaimed wood, or paneling. We did an amazing brick veneer in a client’s house leading up the staircase. It added texture to the house and helped restore the house back to its colonial roots.

When thinking of  how to dress up a room or revitalize a space, take into account the walls that hold it together. You can always decorate the space with new furniture and accessories, but think of the walls as the foreground of your masterpiece.
