Looking up

The 5th wall as I call it is getting more attention these days. Making a statement on your ceiling will add color, pattern, texture, and a lot of personality! Often neglected, the ceiling can be easily embellished with a few of my favorite decorative applications:

  1. Wallpaper: I’m a huge fan of wallpaper, so there is nothing that will create more drama to a space than a wallpaper on the ceiling. You can’t go wrong with textures like seagrass, geometric or floral patterns, or a fun metallic accent would look lovely.

2. Paint: How amazing does this painted recessed ceiling look? It’s such an easy way to add another layer of color to a room. This room does an excellent job of tying in the gorgeous teal accents from the bed and curtains.

3. Bead boarding and Beams: My two favorite B’s combined together to form a ceiling full of character. Colonial home? Cottage? This look definitely keeps the room interesting. You can also contrast the two with different colors, which will draw your eyes up more. Another look is to keep natural wood beams and paint the bead boarding for a more rustic style.

4. Coffered Ceiling: This application gives a very elegant and custom design to any room. I think it looks fantastic when the ceiling is painted a color that really pops against the beautiful white trim.

Whatever you may be thinking for the ceiling, let’s not forget that it’s not only made for lighting! Have fun with what you put up there. It may be a creative way to give your room that finishing touch.
