Project Spotlight: Blue Bell House
I really enjoy getting my hands on a large project- a place where I have full access to designing an entire level or even home! There’s nothing like the feeling of knowing this house will look amazing from top to bottom when I’m done. On the other hand I love working on smaller projects, it’s always fun to help with a quick transformation. Our PRO Consultation is just that, a 2 hour onsite design consultation to provide guidance for refreshing and finishing any space in your home. After my visit with you, I will send you a complete design report with improvement recommendations, space mock-ups and a shopping list of key material recommendations required to implement everything on your own. I base all of my designs off of the budget you provide me along with the style direction you give me at our meeting. I am happy to report that this service, which is usually $500 can be found on Living Social occasionally for a very low price of $236. Hopefully a lot of you can take part in this deal when it comes around.
I was working with this client below after the New Year. They are a sweet couple with 2 young kids. They had just purchased this house and are busy renovating and filling it with new furniture. The couple explained to me that it was time for a refresher in their family room and their furniture from their old house wasn’t fitting properly in there. They also wanted a space that gave an open feel, kid friendly, and a few storage options. This had to be an entertaining spot since they like to have people over often and it is open to the kitchen and eating area.
I started by keeping their original floor plan, but choosing furniture that better fit the space. The sectional is the best way to go when maximizing seating. I added a sofa console on the back side of the sectional for 3 purposes; so that the plain backside of the sectional would not be exposed, for an extra place to set a drink, and a great place to store 2 ottomans for extra seating! Flanking the TV are 2 open bookshelves for more storage and a place to decorate with a few family photos they had. The coffee table I didn’t want to be too large. I wanted it to be easy to move around for an extra play space and also have storage below for toys, blankets, etc. Having storage in your tables is a great way to sneak in extra spaces to put things without adding unnecessary furniture. I love this rug from West Elm. It’s cozy, easy to clean, and adds so much color and pattern to the room. It’s a great place for the kids to lay and play with toys. Speaking of pattern, it’s a must to play with texture, colors, and pattern in any space. It really makes a difference and adds interest when you mix texture like I did with the wood coffee table, metal end tables, leather, and fabric. I brought everything together to make a cohesive living space by sticking with a neutral color palette with pops of color in the accessories.
When completing small project where the client is in charge of purchasing on their own, I like to source from local places that I know they can test the product and easily buy with no questions asked. Every space has it’s design dilemmas and I enjoy being a part of solving them. I would love the opportunity to work with you on your next quick fix!
