Project Spotlight: Woodcrest Home

I’m having a blast decorating for a friend of mine. We’re working on updating their family room and it’s going to look SO beautiful when we are done. Already complete is the refacing of the fireplace, new hard wood floors, and they added 2 additional windows to let in more light. Up next this week is painting, then the new electrical, and soon the furniture will arrive.

They have 2 little ones so I wanted to keep this room as open as possible for play time and running around. I pushed the sectional against 2 windows to leave the largest wall for a centered TV. We decided on a beautifully custom made media cabinet and benches flanking the fireplace. There will be tons of extra storage for toys and media components. Both the ottoman and coffee table are easy to maneuver so that things can be pushed to the side for more play space.

When selecting the furniture pieces we wanted a neutral color palette for the larger items. We will have pops of yellow and blue when we accessorize. I specified kid friendly materials like performance fabrics and leather for the sectional and lounge chair. The drapery is a linen blend that won’t wrinkle and will be easy to maintain. I love the wood surfaces for their durability, but also made sure to specify round corners for the children. I’ve been really getting into sconces for kid friendly spaces because of the hassle of no cords and also less accidents will occur than having a table lamp or standing floor lamp. This family room is long, so when searching for a perfect sized rug we had to go custom. This 9’ x 14’ seagrass rug will fit the space perfectly, add texture, and will be durable for extra wear and tear. I wanted to add a splash of color and pattern with the layered rug on top. I love the thick pile this blue rug from West Elm has, it’s great for lots of play time on the floor. The top down bottom up feature on their window treatments is ideal for people who want privacy in their home while still letting in that natural light. I love the mix of materials we chose with the leather, wood, fabrics, and seagrass. I can’t wait to see it all come together! Check back soon for completed photos.
