Project Spotlight: West Chester Borough Home
I had a blast working on a friend of mines adorable home in the borough. They had recently opened up their living room and family room making it one large floor plan. They wanted a space where they could entertain while also keeping it a children’s play area. This is a room where they can hang out and watch TV, while also relax by the fire. I originally wanted to keep the fireplace and TV on the same wall where they could both be focal points, but to maximize the seating area and create an open flow within the room, it was best to keep the two on separate walls. This creates a very cozy corner to position a sectional and also still leaves a separate seating area next to the fireplace. It’s the best of both worlds bringing both spaces together as one.
I chose all performance fabrics keeping in mind their youngsters running around. When thinking of a color palette, I wanted to let the larger pieces stay neutral while adding pops of color in the accessories. I selected items that modernized a very relaxed country feel. Traditional touches such as the wing chairs, vintage drapery hardware, swinging arm wall sconce, and the tufted bench all lend a traditional classic vice that touched on the home’s colonial style. I loved the idea of mixing patterns with the pillows here working with stripes and plaid. These coffee tables are perfect for scooting out of the way during play time and bringing them back in for adult entertaining. I added natural elements such as these seagrass accent tables to help bring texture to their finishing touches. My favorite design element are the contrasting rugs. In larger rooms like this one, instead of spending a fortune on a custom made 24’ rug to fit, I like to combine 2 rugs that compliment each other. I’m looking forward to seeing it all put together!
