Project Spotlight: Pocopson House (Part 1)

Master bedroom + Breakfast room

I loved working on this project for a sweet family in West Chester that had just moved into a new home. They wanted a place that was kid friendly, comfortable, and somewhere they could entertain. My clients were drawn to neutral shades and adding pops of color to liven things up. They wanted traditional touches, but with an updated look. Working with a clean slate left a lot of room to do whatever the client wanted!

In their master bedroom my clients wanted a sophisticated space that could be a cheerful place to retreat to at the end of the day. I softened the room by adding an upholstered headboard. I chose a neutral fabric for the headboard to anchor the space and then added playful patterns of blues and pinks to help tie in the art work. I loved the idea of putting a mirror above a mirrored dresser to glam it up. The sconces are a perfect example of form meeting function - they are gorgeous and a useful spotlight for reading.  Lastly, to add more ambient light we replaced the existing fan in the room with a polished nickel chandelier.

In the breakfast room I wanted to keep things light and airy. I chose Sherwin Williams Repose Gray 7015, a subtle greige paint color for the walls and ivory linen roman shades to help the light filter through. The farmhouse table is surrounded by contrasting black side chairs.  I love the idea of having different host chairs in a room, it's a really easy way to add character to a space.  It's also a great opportunity to add other textures, and in this case a nice blue fabric. In the kitchen I customized Chinese Chippendale counter stools in the most perfect mustard yellow leather.  We have blue and yellow accents in the joining family room so these colors helped tie everything together. The biggest change in this space was the kitchen cabinets. The very dated original cabinets were an off white with yellow tones.  Colorful Remedies breathed new air into them by painting them a bright white to match the trim. I replaced the traditional knobs with these new black ones. The black accents in this space contrast nicely against the light walls.
