Project Spotlight: Paoli Manor Home

Working on this cozy family room retreat is so much fun! Built in the late 1800’s, this historic colonial holds a lot of character and endless possibilities to enhance its unique details. The client’s have a beautiful original built-in bookcase that was converted to hide away their TV as well. I wanted to make the bookcase the center of attention in the room and chose a rich blue paint color that will keep the space bright. They like to entertain so I maximized the seating with a comfortable sectional and a pair of separate lounge chairs. The ottoman can also be used as additional seating when needed. The lighting in this room has been updated with sufficient can lights, but the semi-flush mount light, sconce, and floor lamp helps to personalize the space a bit more. This custom rug from Restoration Hardware is simply gorgeous! I love the massive size and how it really helps to bring everything together.

The color palette in this particular room is very neutral. The client’s like the color blue and green, but were really loving the idea of keeping this room as light as possible because the lack of natural light. The wall color Simply White by Sherwin Williams helps to open the space up and really showcased their existing art work. The rug is also a solid choice, making it a shiny grey that popped against their oak hardwood floors. All of the furniture and accessories I chose lean towards modern, but make subtle vintage nods. The tufts on the bench ottoman, the stain glass print on the pillow, the antique gold finishes, and the swing arm sconce are all details that keep the history of the house intact while giving the space an updated look. Amazing how everything is coming together and I can’t wait to see the finished product.

FLORAL PRINTS

2019 will be the year of florals. This trend will update old prints making them look new again with bold patterns and daring colors. Florals have been seen in decor for centuries, but in the last couple years it’s popularity has grown again and can be seen in both traditional and modern homes. Given the large range of flowers that exist, there is a pattern for everyone in anything. Wallpaper is one of my favorite applications, but they can also be found on vases, textiles, lighting, you name it. Just like the real thing, floral prints will also emit a happy and positive tone to an environment. It’s a great way to bring the outdoors to your home, especially when you’re like me and hoping for warmer weather in February. Can you smell spring yet? It’s almost here!

My Favorite Throw Blankets

There is nothing better than cuddling up with your favorite blanket, especially on these cold winter days. Blankets are much like throw pillows and other decorative accessories, they are a necessary layer to help complete the look of your space.

Traditional or Modern, they work in any environment. They come in an array of patterns, colors, and textures, making them a versatile accessory for your sofa, bench, chair, bed or basket. Blankets can be purely decorative or functional. A neatly folded blanket on a bench can act as a comfy cushion to sit on or a bulky knitted blanket can be thrown on your bed for added warmth. Both are esthetically pleasing and add character to a space.

Below is a roundup of the best blankets that will look fantastic in your home, whether you are wrapped up in it or not!
