Project Spotlight: Willowdale Family Room

This lovely family of 4 opened up the wall of their dining to their family room making it one large space. They wanted this room to be a casual hang out area with plenty of room to watch TV and entertain. They also wanted storage for toys and games for their girls. I placed the long sofa facing the TV for optimal viewing. Behind the sofa are storage cabinets perfect for children’s toys and also a handy surface to set things on. I then flanked the sofa with 2 lounge chairs for symmetry. The oversized coffee table is perfect for games and the 2 accent tables are just the right amount of space for a drink. I love how this custom sized rug really anchors the seating area and brings it all together.

The client’s wanted this to be a kid friendly and tranquil hangout with surfaces that were safe for kiddos and would blend beautifully with their all white kitchen. The pop of blue in the rug set the tone for the space with pops of blue in the pillow and accessories. I used a textural beige Crypton fabric for the lounge chairs and a soft leather for the sofa. The coffee table is distressed and ready for any wear and tear. There is already excellent overhead lighting, but this funky arc lamp is the perfect accessory in the corner. This room is a fabulous mix of modern with a traditional flair.

Project Spotlight: Paoli Manor Home

Working on this cozy family room retreat is so much fun! Built in the late 1800’s, this historic colonial holds a lot of character and endless possibilities to enhance its unique details. The client’s have a beautiful original built-in bookcase that was converted to hide away their TV as well. I wanted to make the bookcase the center of attention in the room and chose a rich blue paint color that will keep the space bright. They like to entertain so I maximized the seating with a comfortable sectional and a pair of separate lounge chairs. The ottoman can also be used as additional seating when needed. The lighting in this room has been updated with sufficient can lights, but the semi-flush mount light, sconce, and floor lamp helps to personalize the space a bit more. This custom rug from Restoration Hardware is simply gorgeous! I love the massive size and how it really helps to bring everything together.

The color palette in this particular room is very neutral. The client’s like the color blue and green, but were really loving the idea of keeping this room as light as possible because the lack of natural light. The wall color Simply White by Sherwin Williams helps to open the space up and really showcased their existing art work. The rug is also a solid choice, making it a shiny grey that popped against their oak hardwood floors. All of the furniture and accessories I chose lean towards modern, but make subtle vintage nods. The tufts on the bench ottoman, the stain glass print on the pillow, the antique gold finishes, and the swing arm sconce are all details that keep the history of the house intact while giving the space an updated look. Amazing how everything is coming together and I can’t wait to see the finished product.

My Favorite Ottomans

Who doesn’t love a good ottoman? I enjoy putting my feet up at the end of the day and an ottoman is a perfect place to do just that. What is wonderful is that not only are they meant for your feet, but also to sit on. I use them when designing for client’s who like to entertain. It’s a great way to add extra seating in a smaller environment. Ottomans are a furniture piece that anyone can have in their home, whether it be a traditional one with bamboo detailing or a modern lucite ottoman. They add texture and color and are a perfect accessory with a punch of personality. These are just a few of my favorites to use!

Project Spotlight: Wyola Home

This is a small master bedroom design for a lovely couple in Wyola. Located in a colonial townhome, this is the absolute perfect size for a bedroom. It’s so nice and cozy and leaves the right amount of space for the king bed and a small accent chair. There is a small window that is 6’ from the floor, which the bed fits perfectly under. The other 2 windows are situated at 3’ from the floor leaving lots of natural light to shine through. The door leads to the hallway and the open entry leads to the master walk in closet and bathroom. I wanted to leave this space open for a nice flow.

The couple wanted the room to have a classic feel with traditional touches that were updated. I started by finding the bed, being that it is the focal point in the space. I chose this handsome tufted one from Restoration Hardware in a rich and warm brown tone. The nightstands are a neutral seagrass that add so much texture to the space. I love these sconces being that they are classy and functional. The black and gold finish tie in the other hardware finishes in the room. This comfy channeled chair from Cisco Brothers is simply adorable, I love how understated it is while lending the room so much character. The bench and the dresser are both pieces that help keep the colonial style alive! They loved soft blues which I brought out in the accent pillows and bedding. The deep blue rug helps to anchor the space and will help transform the bedroom into a cozy retreat after a long day.
